For Something Completely Different

I had a close look at part of one of my outdoor sculptures the other day. Following are three close-up photos of a chain.

Extraordinary texture - it's so rough and harsh-looking but somehow delicious too. Is it actually cast iron that you've somehow weathered/aged?

T, I found the chain about 8 years ago. I dug it up out of the ground when I was preparing a new space for a garden. For a year, or so, it sat at the back of the house waiting for my inspiration. Then I made it part of an sculpture that has been out in the weather. I guess it's been hanging outside for at least 5 years now. I have no idea how long it was buried in the soil.

That last close-up looks like a cooling lava flow...
